  According to Microsoft, this is a SQL Server 7.0 compatible data engine for building mobile and shared solutions that easily migrate to SQL Server 7.0. According to everyone else it is SQL Server 7.0, but with a 5 simultaneous connection limit and a licensing agreement that says you can give it away with apps built using Visual Studio.

  Excellent "trustware" components for Interbase/Firebird with native connectivity. This is probably the best IBX alternative for those without Profesional and Enterprise versions of Delphi.

  This collection focuses on InterBase 6.0 and above and related software. It is the best list of resources for Interbase/Firebird I've found outside of the IB Pheonix site. Highly recommended.

  Very in depth and reasonably unbiased comparison between BLOBs and VarChars on IB/Firebird. Recommended reading for anyone doing large database application with IB/Firebird and considering storing large amounts of data in any column.
• The Interpretation of InterBase Database Statistics  -  http://www.mers.com/IBSTATS.HTML
  The interpretation of GSTAT statistics is somewhat of a mystery, however, on the Interbase List Server there was a excellent piece written by Ann Harrison of Harbor Software (One of the original authors of Interbase) on the subject. This version of the article is hosted by Mer Systems.

  I dont know if this is officially a knowledge base, but it sure looks one to me. Lots of in-depth technical articles about Interbase.

  PostgreSQL is a sophisticated Object-Relational DBMS, supporting almost all SQL constructs, including subselects, transactions, and user-defined types and functions. It is the most advanced open-source database available anywhere.
• Npgsql  -  http://gborg.postgresql.org/project/npgsql/projdisplay.php
  Npgsql is a .Net Data Provider for PostgreSQL - I think that one line says everything you need to know.

  A site for database professionals with very good articles on the major database, but unfortunately no Firebird stuff at all.
