Webmaster for Australian Job Search
Department of Employment Workplace Relations and Small Business.

Australian Job Search  (AJS) is Australia's biggest and most used employment web site and for 15 months I was employed as lead programmer and webmaster. During this period I was responsible for a major technical and cosmetic overhaul of the site and added several major features including an online resume database.

In addition to working on AJS, I also developed several Intranet and Extranet databases and proposed/co-developed a radical architecture to access the mainframe CICS/IEF applications via a web browser by using XML over HTTP from ASP pages which MS now sell as their .NET architecthure!

Web Server : IIS 4 running Active Server Pages
Database : SQL Server 7.0
Page requests per day : Avg. 450,000
HTML Editor : FrontPage and HomeSite
Graphics Packages : PhotoShop and PhotoImpact

1994-1998

ABC Radio - Intranet Developer / Broadcast Systems Specialist
I was responsible for the ABC Radio's broadcast related Intranet projects and involved in developing the standardised ABC Intranet systems. Many of these systems were ASP pages connecting to a simple database, but some systems required HTML interfaces to existing mission critical broadcast systems which were still in use, and invariably required custom written COM components or ISAPI DLLs.

My other role as a "Broadcast System Specialist" involved evaluating and installing new computerised broadcast systems and maintaining the existing computerised systems. These systems were always 24x7 mission critical systems and ranged from computer based on-air studio consoles in Triple J, Radio National & 2BL, to large multi-user audio systems [both Unix & Windows NT] to small one person desktop audio workstations [both Windows & Macintosh.] I also installed and supported NT File Servers, Print Servers, SQL Servers and Web servers.

I also spent 18 months in the training department teaching ABC staff how to make radio programs. This involved group training, one-on-one training and teaching management to juggle juggling balls.

1983-1994

SBS Radio, ABC Radio, 2GB + others - Production Operator
Over a 10 year period I worked in various radio stations around Sydney as a technical operator. Highlights included 5 years non-english programs at SBS, working in the ABC's national newsroom during the Gulf War, working on test matches and grand finals for ABC Sport, technical producer on three award winning outside broadcasts for community radio 2SER and panelling 2GB weekend talkback programs. Lowlights included lots of uneventful radio, uneventful music recordings and far too much advertising production work.

Over the years I also developed software for the most  of radio stations I was working at, the most notable being a messaging and timing system for ABC Current affairs [AM, PM & The World Today] that revolutionised the way the programs were produced and is still in use today.

From 1990 to 1994 I worked part-time and studied electronics to became a qualified electronics technician.
